大气环境优选锰系磷化涂层钢丝绳，腐蚀环境优选热镀锌——磷化双涂层钢丝绳。
1.磷化涂层钢丝绳（中国专利），经锰系或锌锰系磷化处理，钢丝表面耐磨、耐锈蚀能力全面提升，润滑脂渗入磷化膜孔隙起到异常优异的减摩效果，有效抑制微动磨损的发生，是光面钢丝绳的升级换代产品，大气环境中使用寿命远远超越同结构光面钢丝绳，包括进口钢丝绳（目前磷化绳疲劳寿命是光面绳2-3倍左右，可通过疲劳试验对比疲劳寿命长短，以后随着对耐磨磷化液的深入研究，可能还可以大幅度提高使用寿命。磷化膜3-60克/米2，钢丝磷化后不进行拉拔加工，直接捻制钢丝绳，注意：不能将拉拔用锌系磷化与制绳钢丝锰系磷化混淆）。该项技术适用于多种钢丝绳生产，如电梯钢丝绳、重要用途钢丝绳、矿山钢丝绳、阻旋转钢丝绳、采油开采用钢丝绳、打桩机用钢丝绳等（百度文库有磷化涂层钢丝绳论文免费下载）。
2.镀锌钢丝绳，包括热镀锌和电镀锌两种，直升式热镀锌钢丝锌层较厚，锌层越厚则防腐蚀能力越强使用时间越长，电镀锌较薄。在水中使用，应选用热镀锌钢丝绳。由于磷化涂层具有一定的防腐蚀性能，锰系磷化涂层钢丝绳可以代替部分品种的薄锌层镀锌钢丝绳使用，如大气环境但空气潮湿的高温环境。
3.不锈钢丝绳，使用不锈钢丝捻制的钢丝绳，如304或316不锈钢，耐蚀性能高于热镀锌碳素钢丝绳，价格相对昂贵，对不锈钢丝进行锰系磷化涂层处理（不锈钢丝磷化需要特殊磷化配方），同样可以大幅度延长使用寿命。
4.涂塑钢丝绳，在碳素或镀锌钢丝绳基础上，在钢绳或股绳外层涂敷聚乙烯、聚丙烯。
5.光面钢丝绳，英国1834年开始生产，国内1939年天津第一钢丝绳厂开始生产（2005年破产），随着磷化涂层钢丝绳大批量进入市场，将被磷化涂层钢丝绳全面淘汰。
大气环境优选锰系磷化涂层钢丝绳，腐蚀环境优选热镀锌——磷化双涂层钢丝绳。
