电镀锌可获得任意厚度的锌层。

镀锌钢丝绳的捻制。 从理论上讲，镀锌钢丝绳的捻制与普通圆股钢丝绳相同。但根据钢丝绳使用的工作前提，对原料钢丝的锌层厚度有不同的要求：直径0.25.0mm特号和I号镀锌钢丝绳钢丝，镀层厚度可分为3组：薄镀层组上锌量为15135gm2用于轻度侵蚀前提；中镀层组上锌量为60200gm2用于中等侵蚀前提；厚镀锌组上锌量为75260gm2用于严峻侵蚀前提。而热镀锌上锌量最高值也不外593gm2目前实用的电镀锌上锌量可达1200gm2。

用电堆积的方式获得镀层，电镀锌是通过外加电源。获得的镀层是由细密的纯锌晶粒所组成。一般电镀锌层上锌量也可达750gm2当镀锌钢丝呈螺旋状环绕纠缠在直径为钢丝直径5倍或10倍的芯杆上时，锌层不应脱落或开裂。对镀锌层的耐侵蚀能力，也应做相应的检修。

为确保钢丝绳的质量，钢丝镀锌层外表应平滑、完整、平均和牢固。热镀锌会降低钢丝的力学机能，要求强度高及耐侵蚀性高的镀锌钢丝绳，多采用电镀锌钢丝捻制。热镀锌是靠物理的热扩散作用形成镀层，首先形成铁一锌化合物，接踵在铁一锌化合物外表天生纯锌层。镀锌钢丝绳的镀锌有两种方法—多线连续热镀和电镀。

镀锌钢丝绳的单丝，规定有锌层重量、硫酸铜试验次数与时间，并注明执行的标准。如：GB/T8918—1996中，对直径>0.55～0.6mm的镀锌单丝按表3规定，且分别按GB2973—91和GB2972—91，GB2973—91试验方法进行。而日本标准JISG3525中仅规定锌层重量，对于直径0.5～0.8mm锌丝按表4所列要求，且按JISH0401试验方法。

物理性能检验

(1)力学指标　①总合破断力：指整绳的破断拉力，分为三种：a.理论计算破断拉力(Fr)：等于钢丝绳的真正截面积gm与钢丝公称强度σ2的积：Fr=gmσ2；b.实测破断拉力(Fe)：等于绳中全部单丝实测破断力的总和：Fe=∑fc.实际破断拉力(Fw)：等于整根绳实际拉断时的力。在各国标准中列出的为Fr，检验时所得到的为Fe或Fw或两者。这是一个重要的力学指标。　②单丝抗拉强度：一般指公称强度，是决定整绳实际力学特性的重要基础之一。单丝的实测强度同公称强度的差异，各国标准中都明确订出，有严格控制。如德国标准只允许一定的范围正差，见“7.常用标准”(19)。　③单丝扭转、反复弯曲、缠绕或打结，均系塑性与韧性方面指标。对保证整绳的力学 性能都有重要作用，一般标准都有规定。应注意以上力学指标，各国标准中规定的检验项目不同，如我国与德国对单丝规定有：强度、扭转、反复弯曲(打结)；而日本标准则规定：强度、扭转、缠绕。其次同样尺寸和强度级别的单丝，光面与镀锌的力学指标规定也有所不同，如中国标准，见“7.常标准”(2)所列。

(2)检验各力学指标的检验，均据各标准中列明的试验方法，见“7.常用标准”中所列。表5与表6分别为中国与德国标准〔“7.常用标准”中(2)(19)〕中部分直径范围的单线扭转、反复弯曲的规定。
