可再生能源是指自然界中可以不断利用、循环再生的一种能源，例如太阳能、风能、水能、生物质能、海洋能、潮汐能、地热能等。 随着世界石油能源危机的出现，人们开始认识到可再生能源的重要性。

人类近代社会大规模开发利用的煤炭、石油、天然气等化石能源，其能量来源实际上也是源自太阳能的转化，但它们是地球在远古时期的演化化过程中形成和储存下来的，对于我们人类来说一旦用完就无法恢复和再生，因此属于不可再生的能源资源。
实践证明，可再生能源不仅能够提供清洁替代能源，更重要的是可以拉动装备制造等相关产业发展，是后国际金融危机时期加快经济发展方式转变和经济结构调整的有效途径。
开发利用可再生能源，对于保障能源安全、保护生态环境、实现可持续发展具有重要意义。要把发展可再生能源作为一项重大战略举措，切实抓紧抓好。
什么是可再生能源
可再生能源（英语：RenewableEnergy）是指风能、太阳能、水能、生物质能、地热能、海洋能等非化石能源，是取之不尽，用之不竭的能源，是相对于会穷尽的不可再生能源的一种能源，对环境无害或危害极小，而且资源分布广泛，适宜就地开发利用。
人类使用可再生能源的原因主要有以下几点
1、科技的进步让此类能源更加“好用”。
2、化石能源是有限的，不仅其价格会日渐增涨，而且终会有枯竭的时候。
3、某些可再生能源（如风能、水力、太阳能）不会排放温室气体（如二氧化碳），因此不会增加温室效应的风险。
4、为了增进能源供应安全，减少对进口化石能源的依赖，并满足对可持续性能源的需求。
可再生能源，就是指能源本身可以自然再生(replennish)，永不枯竭的能源，最为常见的有太阳能，风能，水能，地热(geothermal)，生物能(biomass)。人类大部分使用的为化石燃料(fossil fuels)，但可再生能源的使用率增长最快。
它有以下3个优点：
(1)应对气候变化，可再生能源的使用不会直接产生温室气体，产生温室气体主要是在其制造过程中例如制造，安装，操作等，但在过程中排放量很小
(2)减少污染，减少对人体健康的威胁。风能水能太阳能的使用不会造成空气污染，相较于不可再生资源，地热和生物能造成的污染要少得多
(3)可靠：可再生能源永不枯竭，一旦建成，操作成本非常低，消耗的资源也是免费
但可再生能源也有以下3个缺点:
(1)不能大规模发电
(2)大坝和风力发电厂的建设会破坏野生动物的生活及其迁徙模式(migration pattern)，破坏生态
(3)不稳定(intermittent)，太阳能和风能的利用依靠自然，电池储存能源也非常昂贵
一方面，可再生能源的使用既有挑战，但也提供一种替代化石燃料的方式，使用可再生能源不会产生温室气体，无污染，更环保。先进的科技使可再生能源易获取，可负担，更高效，应对气候变化将会变得触手可及。
