黑胡桃木发展及分布
黑胡桃，又名黑核桃，生长良好的胡桃木平均高度20-30m，直径1m-1.5m，黑胡桃木心边材区分明显，边材浅黄褐色至浅栗褐色，心材红褐色至栗褐色，有时带紫色，间有深色条纹，久露空气呈现巧克力色，生长轮明显，半散孔材。
侵填体常见，木射线细，放大镜下明显，轴向薄壁组织放大镜下明显，径切面上有射线斑纹，波痕未见。木材强度和韧性中等，并具有优良的加工性能。木材切面光滑，胶接，油漆性能好，是制作高档家具和室内装饰，装修的上等材料。
原木木材盛产于北美洲，北欧等地，东南亚地区也有广泛种植。其片材面具光泽，无特殊气味和滋味，纹理直，结构细至略粗，均匀。黑胡桃经刨切出来的木皮常常用于建筑工程木造部分及高级教室家具上。
